ASPHALT SHINGLE ROOF
Whether for building or repairing a sloping roof, asphalt shingles are the most popular on the Quebec market.
Exemplary quality service
Asphalt shingles are most popular for homes with a low or steep pitched roof. However, a shingle should not be installed on a roof with a slope of less than 8.5 degrees. A shingle is made up of three layers whose thickness and components vary according to the quality of the materials.

THE DIFFERENT TYPES OF SHINGLES
There are 3 main types of shingles whose installation will depend on the slope of the roof.
-
The three-tab shingle: This is the most economical and popular type of shingle. It is recommended for low roof slopes.
-
The architectural shingle: This is the most aesthetic of the shingles (various designs imitating natural wood or slate are available), but it is also more expensive. It is suitable for medium and steep roof pitches.
-
The laminated shingle: It has experienced strong growth in recent years thanks to its particular design giving relief to the roof. It is suitable for roofs with a slope greater than 18.4 degrees or 4/12.

ELASTOMERIC MEMBRANE
THE ELASTOMERIC MEMBRANE ROOF FOR FLAT ROOFS
Toitures Summum offers this roofing solution for several reasons. First, the use of bitumen dates back to the beginning of the 20th century (1900). But the installation technique has been well proven since it entered the market in its modified “two-layer” form of fused membranes (one underlayer dedicated to the installation of 2.5 mm and the other to the finish of 3.5 mm). These are strips of 1 meter by 10 meters in general. We are talking here about a base membrane and a finishing membrane with granules. Its success is due to its minimum maintenance over its 25 years of life in normal maintenance and climate contexts. Indeed, this technique has proven itself from Florida to northern Quebec. The top layer made of ceramic grains is responsible for its color. More than 50% of flat roofs are made with this technique.
BENEFITS
Its longevity counts for a lot, so a lifespan of 15 to 25 years in general. Also, it is very resistant, and its manufacturing process gives it a uniform quality. Very waterproof. So a good return on investment. Unlike some other covering options, the elastomeric membrane is installed 365 days a year and in weather conditions that offer more options for contractors.
THE MAINTENANCE
Requires an annual examination in order to correct small breakages due to bad weather and other damaging factors.
INSTALLATION
It takes experience and equipment. The installation technique requires the use of a torch and special knowledge. It is therefore imperative to have an experienced roofer to install it. There are now cold laying techniques, but it's still complex and not accessible to everyone.
IN CONCLUSION
Reduce heat islands, especially in rural areas. Available in different colors. You can choose a green, brown, beige, black or gray roof. However, lighter colors allow the sun's rays to reflect and reduce the heating of the membrane. This important detail also extends the life of the roof.
